Some people say, these tales have been around for centuries; and some other people say, these stories were around for a few hundred years, originating from a Sufi saint called Sheikh Chilli, a teacher to the Mughal prince Dara Shikoh. The people saying these things are mostly adults, and like most adults you know, they pretend that they have ready answers for every question asked. Forgive them their adultness: they are not often realistic and flexible enough to admit that. The truth is, they know little of the origins of these stories as we know of them now. There could have been a Shaikh Chilli somewhere in history, there could have been a number of intelligent storytellers all calling themselves Shaikh Chilli. Whatever. Let's leave the confusion to the adults. All that we know for sure is that, these stories are told by a wonderfully imaginative person called Shaikh Chilli who yet lives, and likes to tell beautiful stories to children.
